It's a holiday filled with emotion. It's a holiday that affects all of us in some way. Whether we embrace the Hallmark-filled sentimentality or the well-intentioned wishes of family or the timeless meaning of birthing and raising good people; it's a holiday that promises connection, honoring and peaceful family moments.
But does this holiday deliver? Maybe in moments. But our family systems are complex. And the "traditional" Mother's role is not the only expression of mothering.
Maybe we can be more sensitive to those that don't have their mothers. Or those that have difficult feelings around motherhood. Or those who are not mothers but care for others. Or.....so many non-traditional honoring to be remembered.
